![]() All locations seem to function perfectly fine in any kind of zone (haven't tested guild halls or libraries yet). I have no idea what the tooltip is on about. Not the tavern, nor any zone, needs to be assigned to a meeting area. Tavern keepers are generous with booze once you get them serving people.) If your tavern hasn't been staffed and stocked properly to function as a recreational drinking spot, that's why nobody has been getting wasted. This is where the drunken brawl stories come from. (Note: Be wary if you're just now starting your first actually functional tavern. The keeper also needs the drinks to be inside the zone, but at least thirsty dwarves can access those regardless. The tavern keeper needs the goblets to be in a container, and those goblets within the container will be inaccessible to your dwarves who are simply thirsty. Taverns are where your tavern keeper will use goblets to serve alcohol to recreational drinkers and guests. Dwarves will visit the nearest barrel of drinks and drink from that. Taverns are not where your dwarves will go to get a drink when they're thirsty. This means a tavern that is meant to be eaten in should be added to a dining hall, so that your dwarves can eat within the tavern and still receive happy thoughts about the setting. Dwarves won't do the socializing functions of the tavern in a bedroom zone because it has its own tavern-specific function as an inn room (for guest residents). One example of an exception is taverns assigned to bedrooms. This means a dining hall can make a perfectly fine tavern. The zone type does not interfere with the functions of the tavern except for very specific examples. A tavern added to a dungeon will be a jolly, lively drinking spot at a working dungeon with prisoners and all. The location does not override the function of the zone. ![]() To ensure happy thoughts from dining, be certain that they're using chairs in a dining hall.Ī tavern is a location which is added to zones, of course. Dwarves eating outside of a dining hall zone will receive no thoughts regarding their dining setting. So while you theoretically do not need a chair for every dining dwarf to get them into the dining room, you do need a chair for every dining dwarf to avoid the unhappy thought about lacking chairs. It appears that a dwarf will go to an occupied chair, eat on top of the dwarf already there, and then complain about a lack of chairs. They do, however, get an unhappy thought for a 'lack of tables' if there is none adjacent to their chair. ![]() Yeah, they don't bother finding tables, it's the chair they're after. edit: Owned dining halls will be used with priority by their owner. They choose the closest chair and eat there. I added some general knowledge too, in case you're new to the game.ĭwarves are not drawn to eat meals at an dining hall. I discovered some peculiarities that I think you might not expect, regarding dining halls and taverns. Nor have I ever seen them perform.īuild a tavern, assign a performer, watch as they never perform.I've been fact checking and confirming science for future videos (it's been a wonderfully lengthy process), and I had to do quite a bit on zones and locations since they have seen some changes. Every performer-related skill they have is listed as (Rusty) - including poems and songs they know - and they haven't leveled in them at all. Yet, strangely, the performers I assigned have done absolutely no performing despite having no labors enabled. The fort is five years old, and the tavern at least four I built it during the first year. I have a couple taverns in my current fortress and a number of performers.
